Why buy paintings?

In our daily lives, when we choose necessities such as food, clothing, and housing, we naturally seek the cheapest and best quality possible. This is understandable; we prioritize cost-effectiveness precisely because these are essential items. So why buy paintings, which are not necessities? Why spend money on something we can live without? Many people would answer this question by saying, "Because it enriches the soul." Paintings fill our emotions and time, and add color to our lives.

Painting nourishes the soul.

Books, movies, and music are not necessities, but many people spend time and money on them for enjoyment. For example, reading a book allows us to immerse ourselves in another world, watching a movie is appealing because a favorite actor is in it, and music lifts our spirits. All of these enrich our minds and play a role in alleviating the stress and fatigue of everyday life.

Similarly, paintings are not merely decorative objects; they possess something that resonates deeply. A single painting displayed on a wall can change the atmosphere of a room, offering new discoveries and emotions each time it is viewed. Paintings are a means of communication that transcends words, possessing the power to convey emotions.

The relationship between Japanese people and painting

In Japan, the custom of displaying paintings in one's home may not be as deeply ingrained as it is in Europe and America. I myself had very little experience buying paintings until I became an adult. I had a strong image of buying paintings as something special or luxurious.

However, an encounter with a particular painting changed my perspective. I was captivated by that painting, and the experience of being deeply moved by it led me to immerse myself in the world of art. Until then, I hadn't even kept a diary, but I started drawing my own pictures. Painting became not just an object of appreciation, but also a means of expressing myself.

What you can gain from buying a painting

Buying a painting means more than simply owning an object. It brings the following values:

  • Richness of emotion

Looking at my favorite paintings can calm me down or lift my spirits. Paintings have the power to directly affect our emotions.

  • Personalization of space

By decorating your room with your favorite paintings, you can create a space that reflects your personality. You can also convey your hobbies and sensibilities to visitors.

  • Stimulating creativity

Looking at paintings sparks new ideas and inspiration, positively impacting my creative activities and daily life.

  • The value of time

Looking at paintings provides a precious moment of self-reflection amidst a busy daily life. It helps reset the mind and promotes relaxation.

The good fortune of finding that one special piece for you

Buying a painting is more than just consumption; it can be a special experience in one's life. Finding that one piece that resonates with you is a truly fortunate thing. Having that painting enriches your daily life and brings a sense of fulfillment.

I now live with my favorite painting, the one that inspired me to start painting. That painting is very special to me, and it encourages and comforts me many times in my daily life.
